Vogue-cabulary: B Is for Bluenose

Let’s bring back the old slang, and appreciate the slang from then which still occurs now. This edition of Vogue-cabulary will put you in good form if you accidentally transport back to the Interwar period!

An art deco design illustration showcasing the letter B. B is for bluenose, it says. There is a woman clutching her pearl necklace and looking scornful, saying "must you always cavort so shamefully?" On the other side of the picture, there is a woman cavorting without shame: booze in hand, cigarette in the other, low cut dress. She is replying, "Must you always be a bluenose?"

Bluenose: an uptight person; a prude. Late 1920s.
