Vogue-cabulary: C Is for a Choice Bit of Calico

Let’s bring back the old slang, and appreciate the slang from then which still occurs now. This edition of Vogue-cabulary will put you in good form if you accidentally transport back to the Interwar period!

A brightly colored square Art Deco illustration consisting of oranges, creams, blacks, and whites showcases the letter C. At the bottom it says "is for choice bit of calico." Within the design is a black and white illustration of a gentleman leering and stating "now that dame is a choice bit of calico." The dame in question is on the left looking away in a somewhat self assured and sassy way. She says "who, me?"

Choice Bit of Calico: an attractive or popular female. From the 1920s.
