Summer Daze: Starring Doofus and Darling

Welcome back to our monthly comic series, Doofus and Darling. If you had Highlights for Children magazine when you were young, you’ve seen Goofus and Gallant. If not, it probably doesn’t matter anyway.

A two panel comic called Doofus and Darling. The left panel shows Doofus, a curly haired girl with glasses, relaxing on a hill under a tree, reading a book, looking at a passing butterfly. She is content. The words say, "Doofus is enjoying a well-deserved sabbatical from her day job this summer."

The right panel shows Darling, a girl with a striped shirt and asymmetrical hairdo, manically doing papier mache on a unicorn hobby horse which is sticking out of a container of several hobby horses, there is an octo-man mask, an easel behind her that says "September 9", a costume in the background hanging from a wall, and a backlit shadowy figure that seems to maybe be a life sized sculpture. The caption says, "Darling is enjoying many projects and risks becoming burned out this summer."

The previous one of these was St Patrick’s Day themed. Look at it.
